Improve your skin and health as you reap the benefits of collagen supplements

07/31/2021

THE protein collagen makes up 90 per cent of organic bone mass, 90 per cent of connective tissue and 70 per cent of skin.

I try out collagen powder supplements, while The Sun Beauty Editor puts night creams to the test.

BEEF

  • Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate, 20 x 12g sachets, £26.99, Amazon – buy now

Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate power is easily absorbed, flavourless and odourless, made from pasture-raised beef.

It comes in tubs but the sachets are brilliant for bunging in your bag to take anywhere.

One contains 44kcal, 11g protein, 12g of type-I and type-III collagen.

This was the easiest to dissolve in a drink.

MARINE

For those who don’t want beef in their diet, this is a brilliant option.

The Clean Living Co’s Pure Marine Collagen Powder contains 100 per cent hydrolysed type-I collagen.

I was worried this might have a fishy smell but it is flavourless and dissolves easily in a drink.

BUDGET

  • NIVEA Q10 Energy Recharging Night Cream, £12.99, 50ml, boots.com – buy now

An energising night cream to revive dull skin and combat early signs of ageing.

It combines three antioxidants – Q10, vitamin C and vitamin E – to help reduce fine lines.

It also contains SPF15 to protect against sun damage. I found it a little heavy for my oily skin.

It has a lovely fruity fragrance and it did improve the skin’s appearance first thing in the morning after use, but it might be better for dryer skin types.

MID

  • Ren Clean Skincare, Overnight Glow Dark Spot Sleeping Cream, £49, 50ml, renskincare.com – buy now

Night cream formulated with 94 per cent natural ingredients. Encapsulated algae and phytoglycogen target dark spots and pigmentation to brighten and hydrate skin.

This has a light, gel-like texture and absorbs well but still feels like a nourishing cream.

It made a huge difference to areas of pigmentation and my skin was noticeably brighter and more radiant.

I use this regularly now, along with the vitamin-C day cream for an extra glow.

LUXURY

  • Elemis, Pro-Collagen Overnight Matrix, £148, 50ml, uk.elemis.com – buy now

Somewhere between a balm and a cream, this targets deep-set wrinkles and fine lines.

Padina pavonica, a brown algae, boosts hydration and encourages plumpnesss.

My skin looked bright, plump and felt brand-new in the morning after using it.

Pricey but one of the best on the market. Also available in 15ml for £51.10.
