Save Khaki United Dreams up Minimalist Staples for New Balance Japan12/24/2020
New Balance‘s Japanese branch has recently been cooking up a variety of exclusives for its domestic fanbase, ranging from pricey collectible kicks to remixed runners, but its latest effort strays from the on-foot angle in favor of some clean, versatile apparel. Crafted in America by ethical label Save Khaki United, the capsule is a collection of military-inspired layering pieces ideal for next summer.
S.K.U. is well-known for its American-made staples, mostly executed in trim cuts and neutral tones. In Japan, its distribution is overseen by Baycrews, the company that heads up the likes of Journal Standard, Edifice and WISM, thus making the New Balance Japan connection a little more logical.
This partnership sees a host of wearable silhouettes informed by New Balance’s sportswear past and S.K.U.’s craft-first approach. Garments range from supima cotton crewneck sweaters to ripstop nylon/cotton parkas, bucket hats and convertible shoulder bags. Olive drab and beige tones permeate the range, offset by the occasional pop of safety orange. Co-branded tags and prints reinforce the army aesthetic, never too bold so as to distract from the effortless styling.
All of the Save Khaki United for New Balance Japan items are available for pre-order on Baycrews’ web store.
Meanwhile, New Balance continues serving must-have remakes of its popular sneaker silhouettes, including new looks for the retro 327 silhouette.
