Dakota Johnson Doesn't Actually Like Limes, Despite Her Bowl of Limes on Her House Tour in Her Green Kitchen

Dakota Johnson is known for her dry humor and for giving memorable interviews. You know, when she’s not acting.

Whether it’s because the interviews are hilarious, because she’s wearing a great outfit, or because she’s calling the host out is all up to Johnson’s mood that day. But, she’s always entertaining, that’s for sure.

And in a new interview with Jimmy Fallon, she dropped a small yet significant tidbit about one of her most viral interviews, which includes limes.

Dakota Johnson’s Architectural Digest tour went viral and everyone became obsessed with her green kitchen and love for limes

Back in March 2020, Johnson let Architectural Digest into her home for a tour for their YouTube channel and for their site, which is something they do with a ton of celebrities. She has a modern home with a really eclectic, retro vibe with it comes to the inside.

There’s a lot of wood paneling and Johnson isn’t a fan of minimalism, that’s for sure. Which is refreshing with a young actor’s home, at least from what viewers on the outside can see.

The greenery on the outside is gorgeous and has a bit of organized chaos to the mix. But the green on the inside is really what got fans talking. Her green kitchen became a celebrity all on its own, with her rug and china mixed on. And on her countertop sat a bowl of limes, which she talked about a bit.

But, it turns out that her love for limes was all a lie; she’s actually allergic to them

In the original video, Johnson pointed out the limes specifically, saying how much she “loves them” and how much she loves to “present” them in her house. How “cool” they are. But alas, it was a short lime love afar that didn’t last the year, because she told Jimmy Fallon on Jan. 19 that it was a tiny lie.

“I actually didn’t even know they were in there,” Johnson said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I was giving the tour, I went in there; it was set dressing. I’m actually, I’m allergic to limes. Yeah, I’m mildly allergic. And honeydew melon, so another green thing from the outside. Oh, and the inside!”

She said that both honeydew and limes make her tongue itch. Now, as stated before, Johnson’s humor is very dry at times, so was she joking this whole time? Were the cute teacups she doesn’t drink from even hers too? Possibly. But just like she got away with that lie — if it was a lie, who even knows now — she can get away with any story.

“It was hard to just ignore them,” Johnson told Fallon, explaining further why she even brought them up in the first place. “So I just lied. I went the full opposite direction.”

Ryan Murphy was a previous owner but moved because his family grew bigger

The limes did go with the room and they were a very nice touch to the green of her kitchen. The set decorator knew what they were doing. She is an actor, and she did what she gets paid to do; who could get mad at that?

The house actually belonged to Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee and American Horror Story, before Johnson got it. In the video, she said she was glad his family grew a little too big for the home, because now it was hers.

“I was immediately drawn to how it was clean but also cozy,” Johnson told Architectural Digest in March. “I thought, ‘I’ll never want to sell this place.’”

She moved around a lot as a kid, due to both of her parents being famous actors, and she still has a similar lifestyle at times due to also being a high-profile, working actor. However, it was important to Johnson to buy a home like this one.

“I thought it would be healthy to have a base,” Johnson said. “And, at the very least, have one place where you know your stuff is, as opposed to 10 places.”

Well, at least we now know none of those places will have limes.
