Devastated Strictly star Angela Rippon faces struggles after unfair treatment

Angela Rippon is devastated and struggling to keep a smile on her face over the”unfair” treatment she has recently received on the BBC show, Judi James claims.

The body language expert addressed the 79-year-old’s appearance on Strictly Come Dancing (November 11) and suggested her confidence has plummeted.

The TV presenter, who hosted Strictly’s predecessor Come Dancing from Blackpool, will dance at the prestigious venue when the BBC One show returns tonight.

However, Angela has received criticism in recent weeks over claims she has been receiving preferential treatment from the judges with some viewers branding the show a fix.

“She is so good and so brave she is being judged by the standard of the younger contestants, which is to her credit but also a little unfair,” the expert explained. “It’s the viewers who are being unfair in many ways, they seem to be forgetting how remarkable she is.”

Dancing the Paso Doble with partner Kai Widdrington, Angela suffered a near fall during the dance-off on Sunday night which she blamed on a “slippery floor”.

Judi shared: “Angela looks like the one openly struggling though. She’s good but her inner self-esteem signals make her look increasingly devastated, as though she’s now only soaking up the criticisms and agreeing with them.

“Her smile fades easily and she showed several signals of inner anxiety during rehearsals, like scratching, leg-rubbing and only trying to smile.”

The expert is confident Angela will continue to put on a brave face during Blackpool week and added the Rip Off Britain presenter deserves a place in the show final.

“Angela totally deserved to be in Blackpool this week,” Judi remarked. “She is a Come Dancing icon but she can still compete beautifully on Strictly. I’m sure everyone on the show was willing her to get there.”

The expert continued: “She is good enough to win Strictly and perhaps should have done so.

“The only reason she might not is that the competition is now about professional performers presenting professional standards. If she had competed during earlier series she would have been in any final because the show was about genuine celebrities coming out of their comfort zones to learn a new skill.

“Now she is competing against oven-ready performers with professional talent.”

The body language expert suggested Angela is being supported by her professional partner Kai and added she has taken being in the dance-off in her stride.

“Angela seems philosophical emotionally but also determined and brave physically,” Judi commented. “She seems mature enough to take the two dance-offs in her stride but there is also a steel there that should keep powering her on.”

She added: “We should not underestimate her levels of intelligent self-control and self-motivation. I doubt any other contestant on the show will be able to do what she is doing currently when they reach her age.”

Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool Special returns to the Tower Ballroom tonight at 6.40pm, with the results show airing Sunday at 7.20pm on BBC One.
