Good Morning Britain’s resident weather presenter Laura Tobin, 39, yelped in shock this morning as she was given a friendly nip by a penguin. The ITV host was giving the weekend weather report from the penguin enclosure at Chessington World Of Adventures when the incident occurred, as one grumpy penguin tried to get the newsreader to feed it fish.
The penguins must think I am the food… I’m not a fish!
Looking summery in an aquamarine printed playsuit, the star wore her brown locks in natural curls around her shoulders leaving her bare legs exposed to the feathery birds.
As she gave her weather report, the penguin’s keeper could be seen feeding them fish from a bucket to keep them occupied.
Starting her weather report, Laura said: “If we look at the seven day outlook, temperatures remain way, way above average.”
Following a recent heatwave, the star confirmed that temperatures are set to drop off over the next few days.
Laura went on: “These high temperatures into the high 30s, but tail off into the low 20s as we head through the weekend and next week.
“The percentage chance of rainfall over the next few days is low, but from Saturday onwards it is high.”
Perhaps not happy at hearing about the change in weather, one penguin reached across to the meteorologist’s leg and gave her a playful nip.
“Ow! I haven’t got any food. The penguins must think I am the food… I’m not a fish!” exclaimed the stunned ITV host.
Taking to her Instagram stories ahead of the incident, the newsreader gave her 117,000 followers a glimpse into her day job.
Panning the penguin enclosure at the zoo, she wrote: “Morning from @chessingtonworldofadventures. It’s breakfast time for the penguins.
“One cheeky one pecked me because I wasn’t feeding him!”
The star went on to reveal that she also visited the monkey enclosure, posting a video of it playing tug of war with a member of crew.
Laura went on to visit the giraffes and even stopped to take the “best selfie ever” with one of the leggy creatures.
Following the penguin incident, the star added that she would be giving another weather report but from one of the park’s rides.
“Next up, I’m going on this Tiger Rock,” she said while giving her fans a glimpse of the ride’s entrance.
She added: “Live on air on a water flume, what could possibly go wrong?”
Also on today’s show GMB presenter Kate Garraway blasted the government’s proposed three percent pay rise for NHS staff, after her husband Derek Draper received a over a years worth of treatment from the NHS following his Covid diagnosis.
“Nobody could be more desperate for nurses to be rewarded than me,” Kate began.
“Nurses, I think saved Derek’s life and are still very involved in keeping him alive because it’s the nursing care – as well, of course, the brilliant doctors – but that [nursing] care the during critical days and months that made all the difference.
“But the problem is, isn’t it, that originally it was two percent [pay rise], then it moved to one percent [pay rise], then it was sent to an independent review which decided three percent.
