I’m A Celebrity… star Beverley Callard has claimed she was visited y the ghost of Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre Barlow on Coronation Street.

The 63 year old actress, who recently gave OK! magazine a tour of her home, has played Liz McDonald on the soap for 30 years, most of which were alongside Corrie icon Anne.

Anne was age 60 when she died in 2015 after a battle with breast cancer.

And Beverley has opened up on how she still feels the star’s presence on the Corrie cobbles and said she believes Anne's ghost still haunts her.

Speaking to the Star, Beverley revealed that sometimes the set feels “eerily cold”.

She added: “I don’t want to get too personal. But after Annie Kirkbride died, I always had a photo of her in my dressing room until my last day.

“And when I went on to the Barlow set, I know I could still feel her.”

Beverley was last seen on the cobbles when she stopped Jordan and Chelsey from threatening Carla Connor, in scenes that were filmed earlier that year.

The actress exclusively revealed to OK! magazine her plans to leave the soap, but was forced to stop filming earlier than planned as a botched hip operation meant she couldn’t walk.

Bev opened up about her ordeal with OK! in September and revealed the ordeal had made her feel like a different person.

She said: “I don’t feel like me. I’m a really physical person. I don’t have any sit down hobbies!

“My whole life has just stopped. I don’t know when I’ll be fully recovered.

“The hardest thing is I have no independence. I can’t drive or get myself anywhere. I can’t even stand and cook so Jon has to make me every meal. Jon has been my rock.”

Bev also said she hopes to return to the soap to wrap up her storyline with Liz.

She explained: “I can’t go back until next year, realistically. But I would love it if Liz and Jim got back together and disappeared off into the sunset. But I don’t think the writers will agree with me!”

However, the pandemic could cause delays for her to return to the soap as she recently told The Sun Online: “Yeah I think they maybe are planning that. At this moment in time I just don't know.

“Of course, I should have been on stage now, then I should have gone straight into panto, which is another reason why I said yes to this [I’m A Celebrity].

“Covid has made everyone's world turn upside down so I know Covid permitting I'm busy next year hopefully, I've got two years of work lined up when I left Coronation Street, being a paranoid actor, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.”
