The Victoria Sponge cake sits on a heart-shaped plate and has been decorated with sprinkles and Smarties, as well as pipe cleaners that have been shaped into hearts.

The caption reads: “Celebrating two other special mothers today made by George, Charlotte and Louis,” alongside a love heart and cake emoji.

Presenter Fearne Cotton shared her love for the snap and commented beneath with a love heart emoji.

Earlier in the day, Kate and Prince William candidly revealed how they remember William's late mum Princess Diana on Mother's Day, as they shared touching hand written notes from their children.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gave royal fans a rare insight into how they pay tribute to 38 year old William’s late mother Princess Diana, who tragically died in 1997, on the “particularly challenging” day.

On the couple’s official Kensington Royal Instagram account, 39 year old mum-of-three Kate and William posted photos of the drawings their children had created for their late grandmother.

Prince George’s art is the first to appear on the post. The seven year old drew a sunny scene with a large tree and red flowers as well as birds flying through the sky.

In the next slide, George had written a note to his late beloved grandmother, who he calls ‘Granny Diana’.

Prince George’s message read: “Dear Granny Diana, Happy Mothers day.

“I love you very much and think of you always, Sending lots of love from George xxxxx”.

The second artwork has been made by five year old Princess Charlotte, who has coloured in a heart in blue, yellow, red and green.

Surrounding the heart are several stickers and Charlotte has also penned a tear-jerking note to her late grandmother, where she reveals her dad Prince William is missing his mother.

Charlotte wrote: “Dear Granny Diana”. She added: “I am thinking of you on mother’s Day. I Love you very much. Papa is missing you.”

Signing off, she ends the emotional message with: “Love of Love Charlotte” followed by several kisses.

Finally, two year old Louis also created a piece of art for his late grandmother, which is comprised of a heart shape which has been painted and cut out of white paper.

The multicoloured heart has been stuck onto a piece of green hard and underneath are the words “from Louis”, which the little Prince appears to have traced.
