Love Island star Demi Jones has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

The 22 year old star took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news with fans, while holding a guide entitled ‘Understanding Thyroid Cancer.’

Demi wrote to her 1.1 million followers: “Hi guys, I got my results today and unfortunately I have Thyroid cancer.

“The tumour has been removed but I’m now due to have more surgery to remove the rest of my Thyroid.”

Demi added: “I’m staying very positive and I’m a strong girl so I’ll be fine, thank you for your love and support always. I’ll bounce back stronger.”

Demi's news comes after the star underwent surgery to have her "potentially cancerous" lump removed from her neck.

She shared a photograph from her hospital bed at the end of April, telling her legion of fans: "I did it," alongside a praying hands emoji.

"Very sleepy and painful; catch up soon [red heart emoji]," the stunning star continued alongside the snap of herself, with her bloodied gauze on show with a slim tube coming out of her neck.

She later returned to share a video, in which she zoomed in on her wound, and wrote: "Face & neck are swollen but surgery went really well, the lump of my thyroid was as big as a golf ball.

"The NHS Staff at QA Portsmouth have been unbelievable! And thank you for all your messages they have made me tearful."

The reality star then went on: "In the meantime I'm going to have a little break from posting on social media, I hope this raises awareness to check your lumps. Love Demi x."

It was just earlier in April that Demi broke down in tears in a video to her fans as she revealed the lump in her neck could be cancerous.

She explained at the time: "I went to go get the results today for my lump and they think it could be cancerous. I've got to go have it operated and removed.

"I'm worried, but I'm sure it will be fine. It's just a shock because you just don't think.

"I was sat there in the waiting room and it was full of old people and I was the only young one there."

Demi attempted to console herself as she continued: "I know loads of women go through this so I'll be fine. It might not even be cancerous.

"They've got to cut it out to be sure. I'm just a bit shocked at the moment. I'll be ok, I'll get it removed and it should be fine.

"Please don't put off getting lumps checked, if appointments keep getting cancelled then you need to chase it up.

"I was supposed to have this appointment 6 months ago. At my scan they said 'everything looks fine' and went to send me on my way. I challenged it and asked if they could do more, in which they said 'oh well we can test the fluid if you want us to?'

"Thank god I asked as it was the fluid that came back potentially cancerous. Always push!," Demi urged.
