Monty Don discusses a ‘major problem’ with nature in the US
Monty Don, 70, professed on Twitter to feeling divided over a tribute he made to his late dog Nigel being sold on Amazon for “just 99p”. The gardening expert retweeted a post from an online bookseller, who explained they were selling his book on Amazon for under a pound during the month of February.
Not sure whether to be flattered
However, Monty did not seem impressed or upset by the Amazon seller, as he admitted to feeling mixed emotions towards their announcement.
The tweet from Two Roads Books read: “We’re celebrating our four-legged friends today. The ultimate lockdown companions!
“And, for the whole of the month, #Nigel by @TheMontyDon is just 99p
“Available now: https://amzn.to/39h4jlv,” they added.

The TV star typed back: “Not sure whether to be flattered or dismayed that Nigel is going so cheap!”
Underneath fans responded that no matter the “price” of the book, Nigel will always have a sacred place, in their hearts.
One wrote: “I was just reading a trending thread about celebrity passings which had a significant effect on you even if you didn’t know them personally, Nigel’s passing hit me hard. I read this book on my honeymoon and listened to your audiobook again after his passing RIP Nigel bear xx.”
A second replied: “Whatever the price of the book …… Nigel will always be in our hearts.”
While a third replied: “That’s only for the Kindle version though, Monty. The actual book is reassuringly more. Nigel was a darling.”
A fourth typed: “We will all love Nigel forever but am afraid I still can’t read my book yet, I’m truly hopeless regarding animals, their innocence & love they give is often not reciprocated, of course not talking about Nigel here, but in general they often get a raw deal. Tough in other ways.”
Monty wrote his book, Nigel, back in 2016, in which he discussed his relationship with dogs of his past and present.
Unfortunately his beloved Nigel suddenly after suffering “violent, unstoppable seizures”.

The dog had made regular appearances on Gardeners’ World and was firmly a fan favourite.
The star shared a photo of a terracotta pot with a sentimental engraving on his Instagram page.
It read: “Nigel 2008-2020,” along with a small picture of the dog.
Monty captioned the post: “This arrived today from Whichford in memory of the old boy.
“I shall have to plant it appropriately #tennisballtree.”
The star was left devastated following Nigel’s death as he shared fond memories of his “old friend” via his social media accounts.
He wrote: “I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died.
“He filmed every moment of last Friday’s programme and right to the end was happy, healthy and his usual calm, lovely self.
“But he was suddenly taken ill with violet, unstoppable seizures and despite everything that our wonderful vets could do he slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls. Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye.” (sic)
