Steph McGovern, 39, has announced she will be making a return to the BBC with an unusual documentary exploring the science behind hi-vis clothes. The Packed Lunch host is currently enjoying a summer break from her hosting duties, but will return to the airwaves to explore why people “blindly obey” those wearing hi-vis clothing.

On Instagram, she typed: “On the radio….I did a documentary for the BBC…’s a random one…..about hi-vis clothes!

“When I was a BBC business correspondent I spent loads of my time in hi-vis at companies all over the UK.

“So this doco is all about the history, use etc but also why we all blindly obey people wearing hi-vis! We do some funny experiments to prove it. (sic)

“On @bbcsounds now search ‘Reflections on Hi-Vis’,” She added.

Steph previously was a presenter on BBC Breakfast, before stepping down in 2019 and moving across to host her own show on Channel 4 last year.

However, the star is now enjoying a summer break, as she thanked Leeds Bradford Airport for helping her and her daughter, 2, get on board their flight safely after experiencing pre-holiday stress.

The Packed Lunch host shared she was taking her rarely-seen youngster on a solo trip to Northern Ireland to enjoy a much-needed staycation.

Sharing a photo out of the plane window, Steph typed on Instagram: “Thanks to the staff at @lbaairport… for helping me, my daughter + Eeyore get on the flight safely!

“It’s stressful on your own with a toddler isn’t it!!” She added.

Alongside the photo, Steph added an emoji alluding to her holiday destination, as it read: “A wee holiday in Northern Ireland”.

At the beginning of the week, the TV star had informed fans she would be enjoying a well-earned rest from her show Steph’s Packed Lunch.

She typed on Twitter: “And that’s a wrap! Off on our summer break. #stephspackedlunch will be back in September for more laughs at lunchtime.

“Thank you to my amazing team, on and off-screen, for all their graft over the last 10 months.”

In response, fans congratulated her on the programme and urged her to now enjoy having time off.

One said: “Hope the next series is as lively as the first. Great viewing, well done.”

A second remarked: “I used to watch Loose Women regularly, but I’ve now switched to @StephLunch @PackedLunchC4. Enjoy your break.”

Steph is currently in a relationship with a mystery partner and revealed they were not together long before they decided to start a family.

The broadcaster gave birth to a baby daughter at the end of 2019 when she was still working at BBC Breakfast.

The Steph’s Packed Lunch host had been planning to have a child solo, before starting a relationship with a long-term friend, whose name she prefers to keep out of the spotlight.
