The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond loves football season. Her game day recipes are perfect for watch parties, but not just at home. If you plan on going to the game and tailgating, Drummond has plenty of ideas for dishes that can easily be transported and set up in the stadium parking lot.
Here are 10 recipes from the Pioneer Woman that are perfect for tailgating.
10. Mercantile Snack Mix
Drummond’s Mercantile Snack Mix is an addictive, nutty, and salty treat that’s elevated by a sweet glaze. It features popcorn, Chex corn cereal, mini pretzel twists, and dry-roasted peanuts coated in a glaze of brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, vanilla, and baking soda. A bowl of this snack mix will empty out quickly.
9. Greek 7-Layer Dip
Chips and dip are perfect for tailgating, but you don’t have to settle for store-bought dips from a jar. We recommend The Pioneer Woman’s Greek 7-Layer Dip served with pita wedges. This dip is loaded with Mediterranean flavors, with ingredients like crumbled feta, Kalamata olives, hummus and tzatziki.
8. Guacamole with a kick
Guacamole is a must on game day, served with crispy corn tortilla chips — and Drummond’s Guacamole has a kick. This dish brings the heat thanks to the jalapenos and chipotle pepper in adobe.
7. Roasted Corn Dip
The last dip on Drummond’s tailgating menu is her creamy, decadent Roasted Corn Dip. Ingredients include sweet corn, cream cheese, sour cream, green onions, sharp cheddar, Money Jack, Queso Fresco, cumin, paprika, Cayenne pepper, lime juice, and a few dashes of hot sauce. You can serve this yummy dip with corn chips, tortilla chips, or potato skins.
6. Make-Ahead Sandwich Rolls
Drummond warns that it’s impossible to have just one of her Make-Ahead Sandwich Rolls. The Reubuns feature corned beef, sauerkraut, and havarti cheese with Thousand Island dressing made from scratch. While the turkey-ham rolls are topped with a homemade chipotle mayonnaise.
5. Frito Chili Pie
This midwest classic is served in an individual bag of Fritos, which makes it perfect for tailgating. Drummond’s version of Frito Chili Pie features a basic chili recipe served over corn chips and topped with grated cheddar.
4. Italian Pork Sandwiches
Another great sandwich option for gameday is The Pioneer Woman’s Italian Pork Sandwiches. Drummond says you can step up your sandwich game with this recipe, but you don’t have to use pork tenderloin. Other options include steak and chicken. No matter which protein you choose, the herb rub is “a keeper.”
3. Comfort Meatballs
Drummond’s Comfort Meatballs take just 15 minutes to make, and the recipe is easily scalable for a crowd. The meatballs are made with ground beef, quick oats, milk, onion, flour, oil, salt, and pepper. And the sauce features ketchup, minced onion, distilled white vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire, and a dash of Tabasco.
2. Salted Pretzel Brownies
Tailgating requires sweet treats like Drummond’s Salted Pretzel Brownies. These small squares of chocolate-y, salty goodness are so yummy, you’ll probably need more than one pan to satisfy game-day snackers.
1. Fried Fruit Pies
There’s no need to stock up on McDonald’s apple pies for game day when you can make your own Fried Fruit Pies with Drummond’s awesome recipe. These delicious hand pies are really easy to make, and can be filled with whatever pie filling you desire. Apples? Blueberries? Cherries? Yes, yes, and yes.
Does this recipe take a little time? Sure. But the results are so worth it. You get tasty little fried hand pies that are easy to devour in a stadium parking lot. No plate or fork required.
