Tom Kerridge shared a video of a list of guests who had called in to cancel their reservation in the past six days. The 48-year-old chef said while he understands health comes first, he questioned how the Government was going to support the hospitality industry.

“So, here we are… This is the list of cancellations taken in one of our restaurants in the past six days… 654 guests,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I completely understand why and have no problem with them letting us know. Public health is THE most important thing. The problem is what will the government do to support the hospitality industry?

“Many places are going to crumble without help.”

He went on to say that while he could probably afford to still support himself, others may not be as lucky.

“This isn’t about me or my restaurants. It’s about our industry and people’s livelihoods,” he added.

Many of his 609,000 followers flocked to his post to share their thoughts.

Rugby star Uno Monye said he wanted to book in to support the chef’s business.

Jamie Laing commented: “Tom sending you and everyone in the industry love and support over this period.”

Candice Brown added: “It’s a f*****g nightmare!!! We’ve had at least 40 cancel today!

“I’m terrified for this and next week! Yet we are supposed to carry on.”

Cancellations come amid concerns about the spread of the new Omicron variant.

Infections caused by the new variant Omicron are rising rapidly, warned Health Secretary Sajid Javid this week.

The Government and scientists have encouraged adults to get the booster jab as soon as possible to stay protected.

He told Sky News: “What we now know about Omicron is that it’s spreading at a phenomenal rate, something that we’ve never seen before – it’s doubling every two to three days in infections.

“We’re facing a tidal wave of infection, we’re once again in a race between the vaccine and the virus.”

Boris Johnson has said scientists discovered two doses of the Covid vaccine is “simply not enough” to prevent the spread.

Last year, the hospitality sector and staff were supported through Government grants and furlough.

There is no set scheme in place for this year as of yet.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak is reportedly considering looking into the matter again if ministers decide closures are necessary.
