A Metalworking Town in Japan Is Now Offering Iron-Flaked Ice Cream05/02/2021
In hopes to revive tourism in the region, the Japanese metalworking town of Tsubame Sanjo is now offering visitors a very special and unique treat: iron-flaked ice cream.
Located on the border between Tsubame City and Sanjo City in the Niigata Prefecture of Japan, the manufacturing town has suffered massively from slowing global tourism due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and so its artisanal communities have come together to work on various projects in order to attract more to the region.
Putting together a team for an initiative called “I Wanna Celebrate Tsubame Sanjo!,” the town hired a gelato specialist by the name of Yasuyuki Sakuma who conjured up an ice cream flavor that interestingly incorporates iron shavings, giving foodies and dessert lovers a truly unique experience. Those who have tried it have commented that it was “much tastier than I expected” and “very sweet,” while another said it was “an unexpected combination that rocks”
If you’re feeling adventurous and would like to try out the iron-flaked ice cream yourself, it’s now available at the Gelataria Coco in Tsubame Sanjo for the price of just $3.70 USD.
Elsewhere in the world of food and drinks, Chips Ahoy! is celebrating the 16th season of America’s Got Talent with chocolate chip cookies filled with golden candy chips.
