Ariana Grande is helping fans to “Break Free” from some of their mental health struggles.
The “Thank U, Next” singer announced Tuesday she will give away $1 million worth of therapy to her fans. Grande has teamed up with the mental health organization Better Help, which pairs people seeking therapy with a licensed therapist.
“while acknowledging that therapy should not be for a privileged few but something everyone has access to, and acknowledging that this doesn’t fix that issue in the long run, i really wanted to do this anyway in hopes of inspiring you to dip a toe in, to feel okay asking for help, and to hopefully rid your minds of any sort of self judgement in doing so!” Grande wrote on Instagram.
She stated how she hoped it would be a “helpful starting point” that would allow fans to “build space for this in your lives and continue.”
Those who sign up for the offer will receive one month of therapy for free and can renew their offer through Better Help with a 15-percent discount for the second month.
Throughout her career, Grande has been instrumental in advocating for mental health causes. Back in May for Mental Health Awareness Month, Grande posted a mental health-related infographic, sharing mental health crisis hotlines and treatment centers across the country.
In the post, she expressed her goal of “ending the stigma around mental health and normalizing asking for help.”
“healing isn’t linear, fun, quick or at all easy but we are here and we’ve got to commit to making this time as healthy, peaceful and beautiful as possible. the work is so hard but we are capable and worth it. sending so much love and strength,” she wrote on Instagram.
Grande has also been very open about her own mental health struggles. Grande wrote about how she found therapy in combatting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following the 2017 Manchester Arena suicide bombing at her concert which left 23 people dead.
In less than two weeks after the May 22 horror, she pulled together a benefit concert at the city’s Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
“Therapy has saved my life so many times,” she wrote on Twitter in 2018. “If you’re afraid to ask for help, don’t be. You don’t have to be in constant pain and you can process trauma. I’ve got a lot of work to do but it’s a start to even be aware that it’s possible.”
She also penned the song “Breathin” from her 2018 album “Sweetener,” which chronicled her struggles with anxiety.
Her depression and anxiety were at an “all-time high” back in 2019, when she had to cancel a meet and greet after experiencing a bout of panic attacks.
“Healing is not linear or easy but you are worth the effort and time, i promise! thank you so much to @betterhelp and i can’t wait to do more work together,” she ended her recent post.
