Armie Hammer seen for first time since March rape allegation05/06/2021
Life continues to be a series of sunny lunches for Armie Hammer — despite now being under investigation by the LAPD.
The “Call Me by Your Name” actor was spotted publicly in the Cayman Islands for the first time since a woman named Effie came forward and accused him of rape in March.
Dressed casually in a T-shirt, shorts and sunglasses, Hammer dined at Macabuca on Grand Cayman with two older people and three other women who are — per the photo agency — just friends. An eyewitness described the mood as “super chill” and “casual.”
Effie claimed she and the “Rebecca” actor, 34, had a 4-year relationship during which Hammer allegedly “mentally, emotionally and sexually” abused her.
“He became increasingly more violent,” Effie claimed in a press conference alongside attorney Gloria Allred. “I thought he was going to kill me.”
She says the alleged abuse escalated to rape on April 24, 2017, when she was 20 years old.
The now 24-year-old said that, during the attack, Hammer “repeatedly slammed” her “face against the wall” and left her bruised.
The alleged abuse at the hands of “The Social Network” star — whom she first met on Facebook in 2016 — led her to consider suicide.
“I lost interest in living,” Effie said. “I just wanted the pain to stop.”
The LAPD confirmed to Page Six that it launched an investigation into Hammer after a “community member” came forward with an attorney on Feb. 3 with a sexual assault claim.
Hammer’s attorney vehemently denied the allegations leveled against the actor.
“From day one, Mr. Hammer has maintained that all of his interactions with [Effie] — and every other sexual partner of his for that matter — have been completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory,” the statement read.
“[Effie’s] attention-seeking and ill-advised legal bid will only make it more difficult for real victims of sexual violence to get the justice they deserve.”
Hammer has been holed up on Grand Cayman, where estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers and their two children have been residing throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Chambers filed for divorce from Hammer in July.
Chambers said she was “shocked” and “heartbroken” after Hammer’s exes Courtney Vucekovich and Paige Lorenze came forward with sexual misconduct allegations of their own.
“For weeks, I’ve been trying to process everything that has transpired. I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated. Heartbreak aside, I am listening and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters,” Chambers, 38, wrote on Instagram.
“I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know. I support any victim of assault or abuse and urge anyone who has experienced this pain to seek the help she or he needs to heal.”
