Britain’s biggest family get into festive spirit with pumpkin carving night10/24/2020
Britain’s biggest family is getting into the festive spirit.
Mum-of-22 Sue Radford shared a sweet snap of her kids carving pumpkins ahead of Halloween.
Her 17-year-old daughter Katie was on hand to help the little ones get stuck into the activity.
She cut the top off the seasonal squashes, before giving them to the younger children to hollow out with their hands.
The kids looked engrossed in the activity – and Sue seemed to enjoy it too as she captioned the image "pumpkin carving fun".
Other parents are bound to be inspired to hold a similar evening with their own kids.
To hold a child-friendly pumpkin night of your own, listen up.
For older kids, you can buy carving kits that contain knives with smaller serrated blades.
Always demonstrate how to use the sharp tools before giving them to teens and pre-teens – and make sure to supervise them too.
For younger children, follow in the Radfords footsteps by cutting the top of the pumpkins off for them.
You can then get them to scrape out the innards of the squash with a spoon, which should keep them occupied for ages.
Finally, get the children to draw a spooky face on the pumpkin with marker.
This allows them to get creative with their own designs without handling knives themselves.
Parents can then do the awkward carving bit to avoid any accidents.
Or if you want to give your little one total control, hand them some paints instead.
It’s just as fun to add a splash of colour to pumpkins as carving is.
