He didn’t say call me out when you want.

Fans are coming to Lil Nas X’s defense after red carpet interviewer Jamila Mustafa seemingly dissed his lavender suit at the 2021 VMAs at Barclays Center.

“I’m happy. I look good,” said the rapper, who teamed his off-the-shoulder Atelier Versace ensemble with a mullet.

“Do you think I look good?” he then asked Mustafa, prompting her to reply, “Listen, I’m not gonna say I’m hatin’ on the ‘fit, but let’s move on, ok.”

While the “Industry Baby” hitmaker, 22, seemed to take the remark in stride, Twitter users were astounded by the candid comment, with one writing, “i’ve never seen an interviewer like….give their honest opinion….”

“Big props to Lil Nas X for pushing through that god awful interview,” one added, while another tweeted, “Lil Nas X is sooo nice cause we definitely woulda been arguing for the rest of the interview.”

Others defended the interviewer, with one tweeting, “it was.. honest. he asked and she delivered. why does she have to like it if she doesn’t?” and another comparing the dig to Joan Rivers’ iconic red carpet commentary.

It seems Lil Nas X didn’t waste much time thinking about the diss; In addition to being nominated for five trophies at the 2021 VMAs, he also performed “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Industry Baby” with collaborator Jack Harlow.

He hit the stage with a marching band for the performance, stripping off layers into an outfit featuring bright pink bedazzled “Montero” boxers.

Perhaps he won’t be marching back to Mustafa for her opinion on the second look.
