I told my girlfriend I just wanted to be friends when she found out she had leukaemia – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: I TOLD my girlfriend I just wanted to be friends when she learnt she had leukaemia.

She is broken-hearted.

I am 21 and she is 23. I hadn’t felt right with her for a while and realised I really like her but don’t fancy her.

She was upset when I told her three months ago I thought we should be friends.

Now, of course, she is going through a really tough time after her diagnosis.

I have told her I am still there for her but she wants us back in a relationship. I feel guilty and I don’t know what to do.

DEIDRE SAYS: It is sad about her illness but you should not lead her to hope a relationship will work if you have moved on.

Just think, though, whether her illness may have affected her in a way you found off-putting but, once well, she might revert to the girl you fell for.
