Neighbours’ cameos you’ve forgotten – from Lily Allen to Emma Bunton09/30/2023
Australian soap Neighbours has been on our screens since 1985, and throughout that time, UK fans have become fixated with the lives of the Ramsay Street residents. So much so, that it's achieved icon status alongside some of Britain's most popular (and iconic) soaps, like Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale.
But it's not just ordinary members of the public who call themselves Neighbours fans – there are many celeb devotees, too. Some of whom even managed to sneak their own appearances on the show, whether it was to meet their favourite actors or to experience the set first hand.
From Lily Allen to Emma Bunton, let's take a look at some of the best Neighbours celebrity cameos you may have forgotten ever happened…
As a self-confessed Neighbours fan, musician turned actor Lily Allen was able to practice some of her acting skills back in 2009 when she briefly appeared in the soap.
The star appeared as herself, and took up the opportunity to drop in to the set while she was in Melbourne touring her second album, It's Not You, It's Me.
During the short cameo, Lily was interviewed by a then 17 year old Matthew Werkmeister, who played Zeke Kinsk, the host of PirateNet radio station. She also performed her song 22 for the studio audience.
Two years before Lily, Emma Bunton – aka Baby Spice – made her Neighbours cameo. It came as the soap was filming in London, when characters Dr Karl and Susan Kennedy casually bumped into the Spice Girl.
Emma got to witness Karl pop the question to Susan, however disaster struck when the ring was dropped from an open top London tour bus. Of course, Emma was on hand to save the day – finding and returning the ring to the couple.
Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter fulfilled a life long dream in 2019 when she appeared in Neighbours. Her cameo was part of Loose Women's stunt, the "20 before 20 challenge", which saw the presenters tick things off their bucket lists.
Janet's stint included her (as herself) wreaking havoc around Erinsborough and shouting at the locals.
"I’ve got this mission in life to be in as many soaps as possible," she said while on Loose Women.
“So far I’ve managed to be in Hollyoaks at a wedding reception, I haven’t managed to be a body in Casualty, but I was very very thrilled to be in Neighbours.”
Corrie star Ryan Thomas swapped the cobbles of Weatherfield for the sunnier Ramsay Street back in 2018. He briefly joined the cast as Rafael, a British visitor with a troubled past.
As part of his appearance, Ryan's character had noticeable scarring on his back, which was later revealed to be from a fire in which his mother tragically died. He went on to blame Erinsborough resident and businessman, Paul Robinson.
