Our Yorkshire Farms Amanda Owen feared son had died during traumatic birth09/14/2021
Amanda Owen, star of Our Yorkshire Farm, has opened up about the traumatic birth of her second child, Reuben, who she thought had died when he was born prematurely at her home
On the Channel 5 show, the Yorkshire shepherdess often shares how she balances her personal life and running a farm on the show.
She also shares snaps of her nine children with husband Clive, on social media as she tends to jobs on her busy farm.
But this time Amanda, 47, spoke to singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor about motherhood, and went into detail about the traumatic birth of her second child, who was born at 31 weeks.
On Sophie's podcast called Spinning Plates, Amanda revealed that two of her nine children were premature.
She told the host that her second child, with her husband Clive, 66, was born at just 31 weeks old.
She said: "I had him at home and I thought that he was dead," she explained. "I was at home and it was so quick and there was blood and a baby, but there was no sound whatsoever. "
The river near the farm had flooded, cutting off any possibility of an ambulance reaching the mother and child.
"We really live out in the sticks," Amanda explained.
Luckily, medics managed to reach the pair and took them to the nearest hospital which is two-hours away.
Amanda said: "I remember I was in a daze and it felt like it hadn't happened to me and I was looking across at Reuben who was three pounds.
"They [medics] had an oxygen mask and I remember they were trying to scrunch it [to make it fit] and then one of his lungs collapsed. I got a phone call in the middle of the night to say one of his lungs had collapsed.

"Then I got another phone call to say his other one had collapsed and it's horrible when you look back at it. But somehow you kind of put it aside don't you?"
Agreeing with the Shepherdess, host Sophie empathised and explained that she had experienced something similar with the birth of her second child.
Sophie made it clear that she never wanted anyone's sympathy.
Speaking to Amanda, Sophie said: "I wanted to set the tone and people to say congratulations, and not to worry.”

As one commented: “This woman is an absolute inspiration."
“Brilliant. Two good strong women. Girl Power” said another.
