Trainer Charlie Hills says super sprinter Battaash 'hasn't missed a beat' and is happy with him coming here today.

He aims for back-to-back wins in the King's Stand this afternoon but has been off the track for 10 months.

But winning first time out is something that Battaash does – despite a minor fracture last year.

A setback in the winter meant he wasn't turned out in time for a prep run, but Hills isn't concerned about that.

Battaash came in a couple of weeks later than usual this year, so we were never going to fit in a prep run, but I couldn’t be happier with him.
They found a tiny hairline fracture in a sesamoid when he had his usual MOT at the end of last year, but that was attended to in December.
They’ve done a great job with him at Shadwell over the winter, and spring was so awful that coming back later has probably helped him. We’ve taken our time, and he hasn’t missed a beat.

American trainer Wesley Ward has made his annual trip to Ascot for the big week.

He is excited about his chances of Kaufymaker in the Coventry Stakes.

This is where it is at! Everyone back home is looking forward to it and there is a lot of Ascot coverage now.
We are hoping we have some luck this year and our horses are well.
If you line all my horses up today and ran them over 6f, she’d be the one in front.
Whether that means she’ll be in front of the others running today, we’ll see.
But she’s doing well, has a long stride and is a big filly. The ground is with us today and we’ll take it on.

The track is reported as good to firm, good in places for day one of Royal Ascot.

Clerk of the course Chris Stickels reveals 10mm of watering yesterday with a couple of dry warm days to kick start the meeting.

Though that will change come Thursday, with THUNDERSTORMS anticipated for the second half of the week!

A very warm welcome racing fans as we build-up to a bumper week of top flat racing action from Ascot.

The royal meeting will look a little different to how it has in the past but we are just glad it's running!

Five days of top grade action – 35 meetings in total across the week.

Day one sees THREE Group 1's including the feature the St James's Palace Stakes coming up at 4.20pm this afternoon.

Her Majesty is thought to be watching from home today.

But we will be blessed to have the queen of jump racing Rachael Blackmore in attendance on day one.

She makes the trip over for the Ascot Stakes at 5pm, where she has led an almighty gamble on Cape Gentleman who has been SMASHED in to favourite for that one.

Punters have already started to arrive, despite racing not getting underway until 2.30pm.

This is a government test event with 12,000 lucky racegoers in attendance.

Face masks are not compulsory, though can be worn if they so wish.

So still a few hours until we get going on day one but we'll get all the latest info, tips and free bets to set you up for a cracking Royal Ascot week.
