Twice a year, the clocks change for many countries in the northern and southern hemisphere. While countries located near the equator don’t see much difference to the hours of daylight year round, nations far north or far south experience huge changes to hours of sunlight depending on what time of year it is.

When do the clocks change in October?

The clocks always change on the last Sunday of October.

This means this year, the clocks will go back on Sunday, October 25.

The change happens at 2am and signals the end of Daylight Saving Time, also known as BST in the UK.

The clocks will revert back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

The clocks change is a twice-yearly event in the UK.

In other words, there is one 23-hour day in late winter or early spring and one 25-hour day in the autumn.

The change gives Britons either an hour more or an hour less of sleep.

To remember which way the clock changes, there’s an easy phrase to help you remember.

The phrase reads “spring forward, fall back”, and means the clocks go forwards in the spring and back in the autumn (fall).

“March forward” is a term used to remind people about the time clocks change in the Northern Hemisphere.

Countries like the UK, the US, Canada, and other nations in Europe, follow this term as summer time starts in March.

Changing the clocks is mostly common in countries in the northern hemisphere.

When the clocks change on October 25, the UK will stay on GMT until March next year.

The clocks always go forward on the last Sunday of March.

This means in 2021, they will move forward one hour on Sunday, March 28.

Do clocks change automatically?

If you have an iPhone, iPad and Mac the clocks will automatically change on these devices.

The same goes for smartphones and network operators, who should change the time for you so you won’t have to do anything.

You should, however, double check to see if you have automatic updates set to your phone on your settings for date and time.
