WE all want our teeth to be shining white and free from any plaque.
Although many of us believe floss and regular brushing is the key to pearly whites, it seems there’s more to it.
A registered dental hygienist, who goes by @jasminerdh online, said most of us make a common mistake when brushing our teeth: rinsing with water afterward.
Posting to her Instagram account, Jasmine danced as she revealed that this was the “worst mistake you make with your teeth.”
In the caption, she explained why.
“When you rinse with water after brushing your teeth, you are rinsing away any protective ingredients in your toothpaste such as fluoride or xylitol.
“Fluoride is an ingredient in most toothpaste that can help prevent cavities and strengthen enamel.”
Although some toothpaste are known to be fluoride-free, those kinds often still contain xylitol— an ingredient that balances oral pH and prevents cavities.

The health expert gave alternative solutions.
The first is to simply spit out your toothpaste and call it a day. No rinsing is required.
If you feel the need to rinse, however, she offered two more options:
Either rinse with a “fluoridated, alcohol-free mouthwash,” or with a “non-fluoridated, alcohol-free mouthwash that contains xylitol.”
Her clip received over 20K likes and nearly 1,000 supportive comments.
“I've been doing this ever since I started brushing my teeth…Oh, Lord. Thank you,” one viewer commented.
“You're amazing! I’ve been using your tips and at my last cleaning a few months ago, my hygienist and dentist noticed significant changes! Thank you,” said another.
A third joked about Jasmine’s tendency for sharing her knowledge: “Damn man! Every time I got something going she come in dancing telling me I’m doing it wrong.”
