Alison Hammond replaced by Eamonn Holmes on This Morning in last minute shake-up

This Morning viewers thought they had seen the last of Eamonn Holmes this summer when hid bid fans a fond farewell during last Friday’s episode.

But in a surprising turn of events, the 61-year-old has stepped in for Vernon Kay after he announced he had tested positive for Covid earlier this weekend.

The 47-year-old TV presenter was due to co-host the hit ITV morning show on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday alongside Rochelle Humes.

It has since emerged that Alison Hammond has also had to pull out of filming this week after she similarly fell ill and was no longer able to present the Monday morning show.

Following the last-minute change of plans, producers were reportedly scrambling to find a suitable replacement for the show but they didn’t need to look far to find Eamonn waiting in the wings ready to take their place.

The Irish silver fox shared the exciting news on Twitter on Sunday after he confirmed the schedule with producers.

He penned: “But just when u thought you’d got rid of me … sickness with @AlisonHammond and @vernonkay means I'm off the bench.

“Get well soon to them but I have my Boots on and I’m ready to play. Monday and Tues line up is now myself and @RochelleHumes. Hope you can join us.”

Thoroughly disappointed he couldn’t join his co-host Rochelle this week, the I’m A Celebrity star shared his disappointment after contracting the virus in a recent interview with The Sun.

He told the publication: “I’m absolutely gutted that because of a positive Covid test I'm no longer able to present on This Morning next week with Rochelle nor do Radio 2 guest hosting and Steve Wright’s cover, two iconic shows which I’ve been a fan of for decades.”

This comes after the doting dad thanked his loyal legion of fans for their support after he and his broadcast reporter wife Ruth Langsford's seven-week stint came to an end when the happy couple filled in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

The usual presenters took the last two months off the air to enjoy their summer holidays with their families and friends, and fans were more than happy to see a familiar face on their screens again as the loving couple joined the show once motr.

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford used to present the ITV morning show for more than a decade, but after much deliberation the pair handed over the baton to Dermot O’ Leary and Alison Hammond who took over their Friday morning slot.

This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV.
