BBC Breakfast have been keeping a close eye on the current situation in Afghanistan as the Taliban take control of the country. The BBC morning news show has been updating its viewers on the ever changing situation and interviewed Defence Secretary Ben Wallace on Monday’s programme. Host Louise Minchin questioned the politician about the UK’s involvement, but viewers quickly took to social media to complain about the interview.
Minchin quizzed the Defence Secretary, asking: “How much of this is a failure by the US and the UK government?”
“Well look if it’s a failure, it’s a failure of the international community to realise that you don’t fit things overnight,” Wallace replied.
“I’m afraid that when you deal with a country like Afghanistan, that it’s a thousand years of history and civil war, you managed its problems and you might have to manage it for hundreds of years.
“It’s not something you just rock in and rock out and expect something to be fixed,” he added.
However, many BBC viewers hit out at the interview, taking to Twitter to complain about Louise’s questioning of the politician.
One viewer fumed: “What a waste of an interview. Louise you should of let Charlie or Naga interview him!!”
“Had to change the channel cause otherwise I would have thrown something. What a lot of BS …”we deeply care”… I think they need to read up what that word means. “It wasn’t a wasted effort, girls went to school”…until now,” another commented.
A third remarked: “Ben Wallace allowed to blather on & on. A little bit of scrutiny wouldn’t go a miss but I suppose it is the Tory run bbc. #BBCBreakfast.”
More to come…
