There have been 116 confirmed cases of the disease in the UK with one death.

It is understood the soap star does not have any symptoms and it was a precautionary measure while investigations were carried out into where they had been.

That investigation has now concluded and following appropriate advice the cast member will return to filming when next scheduled.

A Coronation Street spokeswoman told The Sun Online: "The Coronation Street cast member referred to in reports this morning has been advised by health professionals that they are not required to self isolate, following this advice they will be returning to work when they are next scheduled to film.

"The initial personal decision was taken as a precautionary measure."

Corrie bosses had been forced to re-write two scenes to accommodate the cast member's absence.

A source revealed that the decision will only affect a small number of scenes which have been re-written and no major storylines will be altered.

A spokeswoman confirmed the news to The Sun Online in a statement: "The cast member concerned took the decision to self isolate as a precaution.

"They haven’t been in to work and they are showing no symptoms. There has been no disruption to filming."
