There was a new face in tonight’s EastEnders, as superfan George Codd was given a once-in-a-lifetime chance to appear in his favourite show.

To celebrate 100 years of the BBC, fans were given the opportunity to appear as a supporting artist in some of the broadcaster’s flagship shows, including EastEnders, Casualty and Strictly Come Dancing.

George, who was chosen out of more than 150,000 people who applied, learned that his application had been successful in a surprise Zoom call with Natalie Cassidy, who plays Sonia Fowler in the show.

On the day his scenes were filmed, George was given a tour of the EastEnders set in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Then he was whisked off to the Queen Vic and took his position in front of the cameras to order a pint from Alfie (Shane Richie). He was then seen in the background of a shot where Linda (Kellie Bright) was talking to Jay (Jamie Borthwick) in the pub.

George’s date with fame continued when his friends and family surprised him with a red carpet screening of his episode at his local cinema in Nottingham.

‘I had the most unforgettable experience on the set of EastEnders,’ George said. ‘It felt like a dream. I feel extremely fortunate to see the magic behind the cameras, but extra fortunate to have filmed with the cast for an actual episode. It’s a day that I will remember for the rest of my life.’

The episode can be watched on iPlayer, along with Casualty’s December 4 episode Leap Of Faith which featured Casualty fan Alan appearing as a patient with a cut on his head, and the November 26 appearance of Strictly superfan Katy helping to open the voting for the episode.
