Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau gave viewers a glimpse into Dick Strawbridge and his wife Angel Adoree’s journey to renovate their once abandoned home. During an interview with Graham Norton on his Spotify podcast show, the couple detailed a major clash they had in the early stages of the transformation.

The documentary follows the couple as they embark on the mammoth task of renovating their 19th-century mansion on a limited budget.

Dick and Angel leapt at the opportunity to buy the Chateau after the auction had dropped its price down to £100,000.

In 2015, the couple made the life-changing decision to swap their two-bedroom Essex flat for the historic mansion, which stood empty for 40 years.

The DIY reality series showed the enthusiast come together on their attempt to reinvent their new home.

During the interview with Graham Norton, Dick revealed one of the major clashes he had with Angel about the renovation.

He shared: “The previous owners put in some PVC windows in the front bit, they’re aluminium and PVC, the only windows that work in the whole Chateau, the rest of them are all drafty and sort of falling apart.

“Angel when we moved in, the first thing she wanted to do was take them out, we had holes in the roof, no electricity, no water,” he disclosed.

Dick added: “Angel said ‘Let’s get rid of those ugly windows,’ I went ‘No they have to stay.’”

Angel confessed: “We actually didn’t have the money at the time for the sewage system in place but I was desperate to get rid of those ugly windows.”

Dick explained: “They’re still there because we haven’t attacked all the windows because it’s a big job, but literally we would like to go back to the lovely oak windows this place deserves.”

Fans of the series will know that “a big job” is quite the understatement as the chateau has over 60 windows, 45 rooms, sits on 12 acres and has a moat.

Understandably Dick and Angel continue to renovate the mansion even though it was purchased six years ago.

The couple have managed to start a wedding business at the chateau, allowing guests to have their special day at the mansion for anywhere between £19,000 and £38,000.

It has proved to be a success, as the chateau’s wedding venue is completely booked until 2022.

Château de la Motte Husson is three hours away from the French capital and is now worth an estimated two million pounds.

The series has proved to be such a hit, Dick and Angel were able to gain two spin-off shows.

With seven seasons in the bag, the couple managed to create a franchise with DIY including their recent Make Do and Mend series.

It follows Dick and Angel on their quest of helping other aspiring UK DIYers carry out their dream craft projects.

The couple said it was inspired by a tremendous amount of emails they received from viewers who wanted help on different projects.

Fans will be glad to hear Escape to the Chateau is now in the process of filming season eight and express.co.uk will be updated with new information.

Escape to the Chateau seasons 1-7 are available to watch on All4.
