Gogglebox's Julie Malone paid tribute to the cast members who have sadly died in her National Television Awards acceptance speech.

The cast and crew of the show, including Tom and Julie Malone and Pete and Sophie Sandiford, accepted the award for best Factual at the star-studded event, which is sponsored by OK!, at London's O2 Arena.

Brother and sister Pete and Sophie, from Blackpool, took to the stage to thank the production team and co-stars for their dedication to the show.

Sophie handed the mic to Julie who paid tribute to Andy Michael, who died aged 61 in August following a short illness, Pete McGarry, who died aged 71 just days after he was diagnosed with bowel cancer in June, Mary Cook, who died aged 92 in August, and June Bernicoff who died aged 82 in May last year.

Holding the award, Julie, who looked gorgeous in a off-shoulder purple dress, said: "On behalf of all the Gogglebox families I'd just like to say thank you for this award and on a sadder note I would like to nominate it to all of the people we have lost sadly over the past 18 months to two years.

"That's Andy, Pete, Mary and everybody's favourite grandma June who is now reunited with Leon. Thank you so much."

The Channel 4 show was nominated alongside Gordon, Gino and Fred: American Road Trip, Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs and Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death.

Following the death of Andy, a statement from Channel 4 and Studio Lambert, released on behalf of his family, read: "We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Gogglebox star Andy Michael at the age of 61 following a short illness

"Andy passed away last weekend with his family by his side.

"Retired hotelier Andy, who brought much wit and insight to Gogglebox, was one of the show’s original cast members, appearing in the very first episode in 2013.

"Beloved father to Katy, Alex, Pascal and Louis, and cherished husband of Carolyne, Andy was a much-loved and respected member of the Gogglebox family, and he will be very sadly missed.

"Our love and thoughts are with Carolyne and the entire family. The family have asked for privacy at this very sad time."

The loss of Andy came just days after it was announced that another Gogglebox star, Mary Cook, passed away at the age of 92.

Fans of the show were left devastated after learning that the television favourite, who joined the popular Channel 4 show with her best friend Marina Wingrove in 2016, had passed.

In a statement confirming the tragic news, Mary's heartbroken family revealed that they were able to say their goodbyes to her during their final few days together.

The statement read: "We are extremely sad to share that Gogglebox star Mary Cook passed away in hospital this weekend at the age of 92 with her family by her side."

It continued: "Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend to many, Mary, who worked in the hospitality trade, had been married and widowed twice.

"Bristolians Mary & Marina met at St Monica Trust retirement village over ten years ago and had been friends ever since.

"They joined Gogglebox in 2016 at the start of series eight and became instant fan favourites due to their brilliantly witty and often cheeky comments.

"Mary will be sorely missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew," the statement ended.
