Grant Shapps interrupts Charlie Stayt during interview

BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt welcomed Transport Secretary Grant Shapps to talk about the latest travel restrictions. More countries have been added to a travel ban list as the Brazilian variant of coronavirus continues to spread. BBC viewers rushed to social media to slam Shapps as he continually dodged questions about the latest restrictions from Stayt.

“There’s a travel ban from Brazil and also 14 other South American countries, and Portugal,” Shapps explained.

“There’s a new variant, obviously of greater concern, it is a precautionary principle.

“We’ve got three million of these vaccines in peoples arms in the UK. We don’t want to fall out the last hurdle,” the Transport Secretary continued.

He went on to warn of the problem of making “direct comparisons” with the travel strategies of other nations across the world.

However, viewers tuning in this morning weren’t left impressed by the cabinet minister’s performance with one posting on Twitter: “Grant Shapps interview a waste of Time #bbcbreakfast.”

Another commented: “Stop trying to bang the jingoistic genome drum, @grantshapps and just answer Charlie’s questions honestly, please #bbcbreakfast.”

“#BBCBreakfast Grant Shapps didn’t answer the question, ‘What are you doing to check isolation’…steered away. No wonder my neighbours haven’t bothered twice to isolate. Press him, don’t let him off,” added a third.
