The Expanse: Amazon Prime release trailer for fifth season
The Expanse has proven a success in the sci-fi community, going on to have five seasons. The Amazon Prime series is set hundreds of years in the future where humans have colonized the solar system with people living on Earth, Mars and the Belt. With humans taking over more of the solar system, this, in turn, has led to problems both from other humans and aliens.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Expanse.
In season four, a new planet called Ilus was discovered and a group of Belter refugees decided to colonize it but a UN-backed research group called Royal Charter Energy (RCE) wanted to get rid of them.
Ilus wasn’t inhabited when everyone arrived but it had been at one time and so James Holden (played by Steven Strait) was sent to ensure its safety.
Shortly after, Holden found alien structures on the planet powered by the presence of protomolecules which threatens everyone’s lives.
But with the help of the spectre of Joe Miller (Thomas Jane) and geologist Elvi Okoye (Lyndie Greenwood), Holden was able to find an ancient alien device to shut down the structures, thus saving everyone’s lives.

Back on Earth, UN Secretary-General Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo) was facing a challenge over her leadership from Nancy Gao (Lily Gao).
In the end, though, Gao managed to unseat Avasarala and from the get-go, was eager to pursue human expansion into the wider universe.
This is something her predecessor didn’t agree with and so will be the beginning of a new era for the human race.
So how is this going to impact all three colonized planets and will it disturb the peace they have with the rest of the solar system?

As long as there are no delays in releasing the episodes, the finale of the fifth series will come out on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
This won’t be the end of the journey just yet though as Amazon Prime has since confirmed there will be a sixth series.
An official release date hasn’t been announced but according to Deadline, filming for the next season is slated to begin on January 20, 2021.
Sadly, at the same time as making this announcement, Amazon Prime also said series six would be the last for The Expanse.
The Expanse’s season six is said to be the sci-fi drama’s last but there have been hints of the show carrying on away from Amazon Prime Video.
Actress Dominique Tipper who plays Naomi Nagata said: “Look, this is the end of the TV show on Amazon.
“So, we’ll just have to see what happens.”
Showrunner Naren Shankar also said when talking about a possible seventh series: “You know, honestly, that would be more of a question for our studio, for Alcon.
“They control the property, but what I will say is that there’s definitely more to tell and I’m sure Ty and Daniel would say exactly the same thing.
“But yeah, that’s probably about as much as I can say at this point.”
The Expanse is available to watch on Amazon Prime.
