The new series of I’m A Celeb kicked off on Sunday night and viewers were thrilled to see the new campmates hug each other as they met for the first time.

As the stars of the new series of the ITV show – which is set in Wales this year – met each other for the first time on the edge of a cliff, they greeted each other with warm hugs.

And seeing people hug and embrace on screen was warmly received by viewers watching at home – with social distancing encouraged for the majority of this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

One viewer wrote: “It’s actually nice to see hugging on #ImACeleb it’s like you having seen your best friend for months.”

Another wrote: “It’s actually so nice to see people hugging #ImACeleb.”

A third wrote: “I know it will sound strange, but it’s so nice just to be able to see people hugging one another #ImACeleb.”

Others commented: “More hugging in the opening 15 mins then I’ve been allowed to do all year! #ImACeleb” and: “Not gonna lie, jealous of all this hugging #ImACeleb.”

However, other viewers were confused as to why five of the celebrities arrived to the Welsh location in separate helicopters, when they then hugged when they met each other for the first time.

One person said: “Why did they need separate helicopters if they're all hugging immediately?? #ImACeleb.”

Another viewer commented: “So they are hugging each other…what was the point of social distanced copters? #imaceleb.”
