GMB: Shirley Ballas says she can get Ben’s ‘undercarriage’ moving

Shirley Ballas joined Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard on Good Morning Britain to talk about volunteering and battling loneliness during the lockdown. Kate was keen to find out if Shirley thought Ben could follow in the footsteps of Ranvir Singh and sign up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

“Talking of volunteers, we were so proud of Ranvir [Singh] on Strictly and we’re trying to get Ben Shephard to volunteer for Strictly Come Dancing,” Kate remarked.

Shirley could be seen clapping as she approved of the idea as Kate continued: “What do you think of Ben taking part next year?”

“Well, first of all, Ben has a beautiful neck and shoulder line,” Shirley commented.

Kate instructed her co-star to sit up tall as he noted: “I did instantly perk up there.”

“A ballroom dancer he could definitely be, getting the arms up,” the Strictly judge continued.

“I’ve been doing that with my Rise and Shine Tuesday and Thursday classes, 9am Ben!

“I’ve been teaching the country, I’ve been doing free little workshops which have turned into half an hour on a Tuesday and Thursday, half an hour with Shirley B, a little Cha Cha, a little Waltz, some Salsa.

“So Ben, you could get a head start.”

However, Ben noted there was one problem with signing up: “Well look Shirley I am very flattered you think my neck and shoulders are in the right frame.

“Unfortunately, the back end and the undercarriage don’t match. That’s my experience.”

Kate was left momentarily speechless while Shirley began giggling at his intimate remark.

“Wow, that escalated!” Kate eventually commented.

It came after Shirley spoke about supporting the GMB One Million Minutes Campaign admitting she had struggled with loneliness.

“I was isolating for the majority of it on my own, I did have my boyfriend here for a little bit,” the judge explained.

“My son, I haven’t seen him for a year and a half, and I haven’t seen my mother like everyone else in the country.

“I’m not very good at being on my own because I’m normally up and about and doing things.

“The first part of the lockdown felt like a little bit of a holiday bit then suddenly when you find yourself alone, it’s not such a great place to be.

“A time for reflection, I just thought to myself, what can I do hear? So in the end I decided to look at myself, get up, dress up and help somebody else.

“That’s what I’ve been trying to do through my charity work and through this pledging of the minutes.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
