Ruth Langsford and Judi Love were seen fighting back tears as they discussed care home visiting arrangements on Tuesday's Loose Women.

Ruth, 60, and Judi, 40, were discussing the topic with their co-stars Janet Street-Porter, 74, and Denise Welch, 62, when things turned emotional.

The panel of the hit ITV lunchtime show discussed Ruthie Henshall, who is campaigning for the chance to see her ill mother, who is currently in care.

After their discussion, Ruth read a message from the Department for Health and Social Care, who confirmed visits are not yet able to take place.

She read: "The Department for Health and Social Care have said close contact indoor visits are not currently allowed.

"While the vaccines provide protection from serious disease, we do not yet know if they prevent somebody from passing on the virus to others.

"We will be looking to ensure that a wider range of visiting arrangements are made available when it is safe to do so."

She then took a deep breath before continuing: "Well let's hope that that's soon because I think people really, really need to see their loved ones and to touch them and to hold them."

Eamonn Holmes' wife then took a pause as her eyes welled up with tears, with the camera turning to comedian Judi, who was also visibly choked.

Attempting to compose herself, Ruth continued through stifling tears: "Anyway, right, something fluffy and nice and funny now because we don't want to upset you today. This actually did make us laugh this morning…," before moving onto the topic of furry toilet seat covers.
