The fifth and final season of Netflix hit series Money Heist has finished filming, and impatient fans are desperately combing through the series star’s social media pages for any information about the upcoming season. However, viewers fear Ángel’s (played by Fernando Sota) death is imminent after a recent post he shared on Instagram bidding farewell to the series.

The hit Spanish crime thriller has finished filming for its final season, and Netflix has revealed little about what audiences can expect from the latest season.

Fans have been looking at behind the scenes photos and farewell posts on Instagram for weeks from all of the show’s leading stars.

Fernando Soto, who plays deputy inspector Ángel Rubio, posted a cryptic Instagram post earlier this week as he said farewell.

Dedicated viewers have deemed the post to be a farewell to his character, as well as a hint to Ángel’s death in the upcoming season.

Soto wrote a lengthy post alongside a photo of him in character, saying: “… until another dear blonde angel… how many joys you have given me…

“Thanks to this wonderful technical and human team… you are the best… and that carp and those companions who have been a home…”

He continued to thank people who had worked on the hit production, adding: “Thanks to all the fans of this series and thanks @leirayserrano @vancouvermedia producciones @netflixes and especially @naratalent my people who take care of me. #lcdp5 #rodajes #seriestv.”

Fans quickly took to Reddit to discuss possible outcomes for their favourite characters.

One user wrote: “That caption’s giving me ‘my character dies’ energy.”

Another wrote: “He probably dies I’m calling it.”

While a third wondered about the circumstances of Ángel’s death, responding to the prior comment: “Probably to save Raquel.”

Despite being a married man, Ángel is in love with his friend and co-worker Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño), aka Lisbon, and even tells her that he would leave his wife for her in an instant.

However, their relationship hasn’t been on the best of terms lately after Raquel accuses him of being the mole within the group.

Though, the thing that is most concerning for fans is whether they’ll get to see the final season anytime soon.

The fourth season concluded in April 2020 and a release date for the new season has yet to be announced.

A user on Reddit asked fellow fans of the show, “Any leaks on the release dates?”

While another responded, begging: “Pls for the love of all that is sacred DATES!!!!”

Whether fans see the final season of Money Heist before winter remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that it will go out with a bang.

Writer Javier Gómez Santander spoke to Marca Claro recently assuring fans that the ending would be a satisfying one.

He said: “No, I think the series will end very well, this fifth season is very good.”

Both Javier and creator Álex Pina have hinted there could be several spin-offs in the works after season five ends.

Pina told Oprah Daily: “We do have many possibilities for some spinoffs, yes, and I think that’s thanks to the strong and powerful identities of the characters, we’ve always looked for characters to have a very complex, layered design.”

“So I think almost every character of Money Heist has a duality that we would like to see in a spinoff. We could watch any of them in other contexts,” he added.

Money Heist seasons 1-4 are currently available on Netflix.
