Money Heist will be back for part five on Friday, September 3, on Netflix. Will Tokyo be responsible for Rio’s death?

Tokyo (played by Úrsula Corberó) and Rio (Miguel Herrán) haven’t always had the most stable of relationships.

Rio previously broke up with his girlfriend because of her addiction to being a criminal was jeopardising what they had together.

It is still clear though that they are still very much in love with one another as they work together on their final heist job.

But it has been predicted that Tokyo’s actions will lead to Rio’s downfall in the end.

Explaining their theory on Reddit, a Money Heist fan wrote: “I think the writers might want to end the final season as a throwback to the first episodes, much like they did at the end of season two with Raquel looking for a charger and

Sergio giving her one. But this time, it’ll be a whole lot more pessimistic…

“The ending of the pilot is Tokyo screaming and dragging out an injured Rio, realizing she can lose another boyfriend at any time. That seems to be her worst nightmare.

“So I think the writers really want to make her suffer like this, which would make her grow in the end.

“Because if you think about it, Tokyo started to change in season four, and I suppose they’re gonna go down deeper that route.”

Tokyo felt uneasy about starting up another romance in the early days because of her past.

She was first with Rene (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) who was killed by the police when they did a robbery together.

In the series, a heartbroken Tokyo remembered: “The last time I saw him I left him in a pool of blood with his eyes open

The Reddit user also points out the fact that in the season five trailer, Tokyo is seen loved up with Rene.

This could be either a flashback or a dream which the fans believe is Tokyo remembering Rene after she loses Rio.

In reaction to this theory, another fan commented: “Nice theory! I had not thought of that!

“I really wonder why they show Tokyo’s ex-boyfriend. This would be an interesting scenario, to show the flashbacks with the ex, as Rio dies.

“In fact, to show that Tokyo is responsible for both deaths. In any case, I think that Rio will not have a good ending, I think it is possible, that he will die.”

Creator and executive producer Alex Pina previously opened up about how five seasons had been the intended amount of series for quite a while.

Last year, he said: “We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band.

“How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters.

“The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel.

“The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season
