NCIS fans will be saying goodbye to one of the three CBS dramas as NCIS New Orleans has been cancelled. The series set in the Big Easy will come to an end next month, ending with just seven seasons. However, there has been talk of another show starting in its place and talk hasn’t stopped about who could be starring in it.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from NCIS.

Alex Quinn (played by Jennifer Esposito) was an experienced agent who had left the service to work at FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre).

Agent Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) spotted her potential though and encouraged her to join their team at NCIS which she did.

She joined at the same time as Agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and made quite an impression on fans throughout the season.

However, it wasn’t meant to be as her final appearance in the show was in the series 14 finale.

An exact reason as to why actress Esposito left NCIS hasn’t been given.

Alex’s exit came when she left her job to look after her sick mother.

There were concerns the reason for the actress’ departure was down to herself being ill but she denied this being the case on Twitter.

Alternatively, there is speculation that it was because of a different creative direction being taken.

Alex had been created by showrunner Gary Glasberg but before series 15 he died and she was written out of the show.

Will Alexandra Quinn return to lead NCIS Hawaii?

Unlike many leading characters in NCIS, Alex Quinn’s exit didn’t involve her dying.

Her relationships with Gibbs and the rest of the team stayed on good terms by the end, which leaves the door open for a comeback.

But with actress Katrina Law set to join the cast as Agent Jessica Knight, it doesn’t seem like there could be an opportunity for her to make a return to that team.

However, that doesn’t mean she couldn’t lead an NCIS team in Hawaii.

Quinn was a popular character when she was in NCIS so the creators already know that their fans like her.

She was an agent with plenty of experience and wasn’t killed off either which means she is still out there.

Given the fact she swapped life at a training centre to work as an agent again shows she has got the hunger for it and could be ready for the next step in heading up her own division.

Actress Esposito has been in numerous series such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Boys and Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens since leaving NCIS.

So could she be up for a new challenge and pack her bags for Hawaii.

Discussions of NCIS Hawaii began earlier this year, at a similar time to when NCIS NOLA was officially cancelled.

Talks are still ongoing and the spin-off series has yet to be announced by CBS but according to Deadline, the network was on the edge of giving it the green light.

What fans are desperate to know though are when will it be released and when is the release date?

NCIS is available to watch on CBS.
