Robbie Williams forced to delay his latest album due to Covid-19

11/02/2020

ROBBIE Williams has become the latest victim of the pandemic and the havoc it is causing the music industry.

The Angels singer has been forced to delay his latest album, which he had teased would have a new disco sound.

His mate Guy Chambers, who has worked on multiple records with Rob, says despite revealing earlier this year he had all but completed the new music it won’t be out in 2020.

The songwriter said: “He does want to do another record, but obviously we can’t because of the situation.

“He’s in Los Angeles and no one can fly to America.

“Our relationship doesn’t work in different countries, we  have to be in the same room together to create.”

The collaboration — Robbie’s 13th studio album — follows last year’s festive record The Christmas Present,  which Guy also helped him on. The pair’s other  projects include 2013’s Swings Both Ways and 2016’s The Heavy Entertainment Show.

Last November Robbie’s record label Universal said the new album would be released this year.

But in the summer he  told how he spent lockdown making music in a “new musical genre”.

The former Take That man said: “I’m in a new musical genre, a genre I haven’t really touched before. Not new taste-wise,  it’s what I’m about.” He added: “I’ve got to say, as I look down the list of my new songs from my new album, that I don’t know when it’s coming out. It’s got a very disco feel to it.” Earlier this month he revealed he had collaborated with Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder.

Rob said: “Me and him have done a song together. Quite often I try and channel Shaun Ryder when I’m writing songs.” And he even rolled back the years by writing with former bandmate Gary Barlow. He said: “I’ve been writing some songs with Gary Barlow in the last few weeks too.”

In August he said he had finished as many as 50 new songs and wife Ayda had got involved.

The mother of his four children said: “Can I just put it out there because A) it’s cool to do with you and B) as a feather in mummy’s cap because I’m never going to write a song otherwise.”

This sounds like Rob’s new album will  be full of  collaborations.

Bath time

MABEL showed she’s made of strong stuff as she went for a dip in an outside bath. Rather her than me in this weather.

The Boyfriend singer slipped on a purple bikini for the challenger with her Swedish singer pal Awa.

METALLICA say their upcoming studio album is more of a group production.

Talking about the follow up to 2016’s Hardwired…To Self Destruct, bassist of the four-piece Robert Trujillo explained: “It feels very collaborative.

“I love that we are in that head space to be more collaborative.”

Mega rant

AFTER splitting for a second time in May, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green had made their break-up look amicable.

But the Transformers actress, now dating rapper Machine Gun Kelly, has broken rank and posted a scathing public message to Brian on Instagram. She made the comment after he posted a picture of himself with their son, Journey, to mark Halloween.

Megan, who married Brian in 2010, wrote underneath the snap on Sunday: “Why does Journey have to be in this picture? It’s not hard to crop them out. I had a great Halloween with them yesterday, and yet notice how absent they are from my social media.”

Megan, who has two other sons, Bodhi and Noah, with Brian, added: “You’re so intoxicated with feeding the narrative that I’m an absent mother, and you are the perennial, eternally dedicated dad of the year. You have them half of the time.”

Brian – with Megan in 2014 – later reposted the picture without Journey but did not publicly acknowledge Megan’s post.

RISING British rock star Brocarde has dropped new single Twisted.

Touted as a visual artist as well as a singer, she  said the song was written as, “an anthem for those who feel judged and misrepresented”. She added: “Twisted is a rally cry to tear up the rulebook, a refusal to be limited by others.”

Meg shows Savage side

MEGAN Thee Stallion has been is sticking to her raunchy image after her hit song Wap with Cardi B.

The rapper posed in black lingerie from Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty fashion line and teamed it with a sparkly choker.

Clearly enjoying the pay day from her latest shoot, Megan posted the snaps on Instagram, saying: “My bank roll this, this thick.”

She sparked controversy with her saucy lyrics on Wap – but admitted she had agonised over the song. Cardi said: “I just had, like, an original hook to Wap and didn’t really like it.

“I sent it to some female artists to see if they could do the hook, they couldn’t really do it and I started playing around again and was like, ‘You know what, I’m just gonna keep it like that’.”

I think she wasn’t the only one who struggled with the lyrics.

Who ate all the pies

WE’VE all put on a little extra timber during lockdown – and Lewis Capaldi is no exception.

He joked he had even started sweating because of his extra pounds.

Thousands of fans tuned in to watch him perform a secret gig staged by burger chain McDonald’s through its app, and he told them: “So this is going well for me so far, but I get it’s a very one-sided thing.

“I have no idea what you’re thinking.

“Maybe it’s, ‘Who is this large man? Why is he sweating so much after ten to 15 minutes on stage?’

“Good question. The answer is, I carry a lot of weight around my midriff and buttocks.

“If you had a sense of what was going on right in here, it’s a swamp at the minute. It’s a mess.”

Lewis, who belted out a 45-minute set at the I’m Lovin’ It Live gig on Sunday night, alongside Stormzy, also made fun of the new lock-down with a gross joke.

Talking about how he had been affected by the pandemic, he quipped: “I’ve had to give up one of my favourite pastimes – spitting on people – due to the restrictions. I don’t want anyone getting Covid.

“Or being spat on, that’s also off the cards. I know, unfort-unately so.

“If anyone out there is thinking, ‘When can I next get spat on?’ I am right there with you, buddy.”

The Scots singer, whose debut album Divinely Unin-spired To A Hellish Extent broke records after he released it in May last year, also told fans he missed gigging live but would come back on stage to play a set if the pay was right.

Lewis, whose set is available to watch on McDonald’s’ YouTube channel, said: “I can’t do an encore virtually, because no one is here.

“I normally tell people to sing along but can’t because no one is here.”

But he added: “I will sing again for the money. I’m not a fool. Times are tough, you’ve got to squeeze every penny.

“Thanks for giving me something to do. See you next time, if the cash is right.

“All jokes aside, this year has been terrible for everyone. Do you know what I hate? Coronavirus. I hate it.”

So do I, Lewis. So do I, mate.

Kylie's got disco magic

KYLIE Minogue lived up to her song Raining Glitter in this sequin-encrusted, purple gown.

She performed four songs at the BBC’s Radio Theatre, including Say Something and Magic from her album Disco, out Friday.

Fans can hear it on Radio 2’s Zoe Ball Breakfast Show this Friday from 6.30am.

Kylie also told Zane Lowe on Apple Beats, she wants to do a show where: “We’re just all at a big nightclub.”

Jake track’s an own goal

POOR old Jake Bugg had a moral dilemma during his latest project – recording a song to celebrate a goal against the England footie team.

The singer has been tasked with making the soundtrack for a documentary about Ronaldinho.

It is being made by directors Andrew and Stuart Douglas and includes the moment the Brazilian genius beat England keeper David Seaman with a free kick at the 2002 World Cup.

In an exclusive chat, Jake said: “They directed a couple of music videos for me and asked if I’d have a go. That’s what I was doing in the previous lockdown.

“It’s not something I’m going to get tired of. You always want to be involved in the next track.

“But I’ve been trying to write an uplifting song for the goal he banged in against England.

“I’ve written about an hour and a half of music for it.”

Jake recently released All I Need, an uplifting song he made with super producer Steve Mac, who made Shape Of You with Ed Sheeran.

The Broken singer says he’s made more songs with him as part of an album for next year.

Jake said: “Song-wise I’m pretty much there. Now, with the whole lockdown thing, I’ll try to write a few more for it.

“Before I even started making this record I decided I wanted something with a bit more energy, a bit more uplifting.

“Hopefully it’ll give people something to listen to in all of this.”

By the time he’s finished it, it’ll be perfect.
