Showtime’s long-running comedy series Shameless is coming to an end this year after a decade on screens. The show based on Channel 4’s series of the same name has very much outlived its British predecessor and has been an immense success Stateside. As the show prepares to bow out for good, Express.co.uk has information on the final outing.
When will Shameless season 11 be released?
Shameless season 11 will be debuting on Showtime in America on Sunday, December 6.
There will be a total of 12 episodes in the final outing – the same number as most of the previous seasons.
Episodes will be airing on a weekly basis on Showtime with the series anticipated to wrap up next year.
Showtime confirmed back in January 2020 it had renewed Shameless for season 11, which would be the last outing.
Network executive Gary Levine explained to Deadline the reason behind the decision, saying: “The characters of Shameless have brought Showtime viewers more laughs and tears and pure enjoyment than any program in our history.
“While we are sad to bid the Gallaghers farewell, we couldn’t be more confident in the ability of showrunner John Wells, his writing team and this great cast to bring our series to its appropriately Shameless conclusion.”
Shameless has performed consistently well in the ratings for Showtime, so it wasn’t a viewing figures issue.
Instead, the creative team were given the opportunity to round off the show in the strongest way possible and end on a high.
Who will be in the cast of Shameless season 11?
The main cast will be returning for one final hurrah with William H. Macy returning as the irrepressible patriarch Frank Gallagher.
Joining him will be Gotham actor Cameron Monaghan as son Ian Gallagher.
Jeremy Allen White will be returning as Philip “Lip” Gallagher, while Ethan Cutkosky reprises his part as Carl Gallagher.
Shanola Hampton will again be Veronica Fisher and Steve Howey assumes the part of Kevin “Kev” Ball.
Other cast members include Noel Fisher, Emma Kenney, Christian Isaiah and Kate Miner.
British actress Emmy Rossum departed from Shameless in season nine as daughter Fiona Gallagher and it’s unclear if she could be making a comeback for the last season.
Is there a trailer for Shameless season 11?
Yes, American network Showtime dropped a trailer back in January this year for the last series, teasing what audiences could expect.
The trailer starts with Ian getting married, but it looks like there’s still plenty of drama for the rest of the family.
What will happen in Shameless season 11?
Season 11 will be rounding off the story of the Gallagher family in typically chaotic fashion.
According to Variety, the coronavirus pandemic will be addressed in the last series.
Also, Frank will be reconciling himself to aging and its inevitability.
Another theme in the last outing will again deal with wealth and gentrification as the area around the Gallaghers gets a makeover.
Shameless season 11 will premiere on Showtime on December 6
