According to new reports, Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen was tipped to be partnered up with Nicola Adams who will be part of the first same-sex couple. However, after boxer Nicola was spotted leaving a building with Katya Jones yesterday, Karen is said to be “furious”.

With excitement for the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing building, fans were sent into overdrive yesterday when Nicola and Katya were spotted giggling together.

It has been previously speculated either Karen or Katya would be partnered up with Olympian Nicola.

Since photos of Katya and Nicola emerged yesterday, it has been reported Karen is “furious” she has missed out on the opportunity.

“For ages she was the favourite to get the nod to dance with Nicola and had even gone as far as planning out routines for them to perform,” an unknown source revealed.

“She’d got to know Nicola really well too and the pair had become really good friends.

“She’d not only got her heart set on dancing with Nicola, she had prepared herself for it mentally.”

They added to The Sun: “So for them to suddenly decide to pick Katya was a massive blow.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Strictly Come Dancing and Karen Hauer for comment.

Nicola has spoken about why she wanted to be partnered with another female dancer.

“It means a lot to me,” she explained. “I think it’s a brilliant step in the right direction especially on the diversity side of things.

“And women actually dance with women all the time in the professional circuit so I guess it’s just showing people that it can be done.”

Asked what she wanted from her partner, Nicola detailed: “Someone competitive who will work as hard as I will and hopefully be around the same height as I am as well.”

She added that after wining two Olympic Gold medals she wants to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

However, she explained her biggest challenge to do so is learning the routines.

“I’ve got the physical side, I’m pretty fit, I’m pretty in shape,” Nicola remarked.

“So the fitness side of things won’t be a problem. It’s just learning the actual routine where I think it will be quite tricky.”

Nevertheless the boxer is keen to get to work learning the Cha Cha or Tango.

Speaking about the reaction to her signing up to the competition and becoming part of the first same-sex couple, Nicola revealed: “It’s been an amazing reaction actually.

“I’ve had lots of positive messages, everybody saying they can’t wait to see me, so I’m excited.

“From the start I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. I hope I don’t disappoint with my dance moves and I’ll be giving it 110 percent.”

Strictly Come Dancing starts Saturday 17 October on BBC One.
