Strictly Come Dancing professionals more famous than their celebrity partners

Strictly pro dancers are more famous than their so-called celebrity partners.

Seven of the 10 most popular people who will feature in this autumn’s show are its ballroom pros – with Oti Mabuse topping the list.

The figure comes as fans slate the BBC for signing a bunch of “no-mark” competitors for the upcoming series, including Gordon Ramsay’s teen daughter.

A spokesperson for beauty brand Cosmetify, which compiled the study, said: “While a new line-up of celebrities is always an exciting part of Strictly Come Dancing, it is thrilling to discover that the professionals are getting the support and interest they deserve.”

Cosmetify studied the social media followings, monthly Google searches and media article mentions of this year’s Strictly pros and celebs.

South African Oti, 31 – who won last year with comedian partner Bill Bailey, 56 – was the most Googled of the bunch.

Her name is searched on average 81,000 times per month. She is also the third most talked about star by media organisations, with 448 mentions in articles written about her in the past year.

Oti’s 588,000-plus Instagram followers also gives her the fifth highest number of social media fans of this year’s Strictly crop.

McFly star Tom Fletcher, 36, is second most popular and pro-turned co-host of Strictly’s sister show It Takes Two Janette Manrara, 37, third.

Giovanni Pernice, 30 – partnered with Good Morning Britain’s Ranvir Singh, 44, last year – is fourth most popular.

Dancer-turned-judge Anton Du Beke, 55, came fifth and BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, 44 – branded “dull Dan” by droves of viewers on social media – was sixth.

Strictly fans fumed online after they were left puzzled over the achievements and identities of some of this year’s celebs.

They include telly chef Ramsay’s daughter Tilly, 19, CBBC telly presenter Rhys Stephenson and John Waite – winner of The Great British Bake Off in 2012.
