The Great filming locations: Where is the Channel 4 show made? | The Sun

FANS of Channel 4's The Great were thrilled when the show returned for another season.

Due to the stunning locations used on the series, some viewers have been left wondering where the comedy-drama is filmed.

Where is The Great filmed?

Hatfield House, Hertfordshire

The Great – which follows Catherine the Great as she plots to kill her husband – was mainly filmed at Hatfield House.

Crews were spotted taking over the impressive pile to film the new series, and this isn't the first time the property has been used as a filming location.

Hatfield House -which was the childhood home of Elizabeth I -was also used as the backdrop for Rebecca and The Favourite.

The rooms used on The Great include the Long Gallery, The Marble Hall, and the Old Banqueting Hall.

Royal Palace of Caserta (La Reggia di Caserta), Italy

The cast and production crew also travelled to southern Italy to film at the former royal residence in Caserta.

It was built by the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies as their main residence for kings of Naples.

Its interior courtyard and Baroque gardens are often featured on the series.

Hever Castle, Kent

What better place to shoot this show, than at Anne Boleyn's former residence.

The Kent castle was later bought by New York millionaire William Waldorf Astor.

Crews shot scenes on the impressive Italian Loggia terrace, which is embellished with century-old nymphs.

The Loggia beautifully frames one end of the 38-acre lake at Hever and was inspired by Rome’s world-famous Trevi Fountain.

Three Mills Studio, Newham

For some of the interior shots, purpose built sets were used.

The Salon and Party Room was created in East London at the Three Mills Studio.

Other sets built included Empress Catherine’s bed chambers, and the residence of Aunt Elizabeth.

Other locations that were used briefly on The Great include:

  • Ham House, Richmond
  • Belvoir Castle, Grantham, Leicestershire
  • Castle Howard, North Yorkshire
