TV journalist Jon Snow is set to leave Channel 4 News after 32 years to focus on ‘longer-form projects’.

The 73-year-old, known for presenting the news at 7pm, may now be able to spend more evenings at home – but what do we know about the woman he shares his life with?

Who is Jon Snow’s wife Dr Precious Lunga?

Lunga, 46, is an epidemiologist and academic.

The Zimbabwean moved to the UK aged 17 to study neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh, later receiving her PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2003.

Speaking to the New Statesman about her move to the UK, Lunga said: "I went to a convent school; most girls didn't do science.

"When I was at school, I loved history and all these other subjects. I remember one of the nuns saying to me, 'You're good at science, so you must do science.' And my parents always encouraged me."

She founded Afya Pap in 2016 – a medical app that offers education and coaching on chronic diseases – and was a founding member of Europrise, a consortium of HIV vaccine researchers.

Lunga has received plenty of acclaim throughout her career, being listed in New Africans 100 most influential Africans in 2019.

She had not been married prior to meeting Snow and does not have any other children from a previous relationship.

When did they get married?

Lunga married Snow in March 2010 – despite their 27-year age gap.

The couple had been dating for nine years before they said their vows.

Speaking of the marriage in 2011, Lunga said: "If you'd googled me ten months ago, you'd have seen all my professional stuff.

"But when I'm interacting with people, it [the relationship] doesn't come up. Perhaps they're all very polite and don't mention it. I don't google myself so I don't know."

Snow had not previously been married but was involved in a relationship with human rights lawyer Madeleine Colvin for 35 years.

The TV journalist and Colvin had two children together before separating.

Do they have kids?

The couple welcomed a baby boy into the world via surrogacy in March 2021.

Speaking after the birth, Snow said: "In our desire to seal our now 11 years of marriage with a baby, my wife suffered numerous medical setbacks and miscarriages.

"Consequently, we will always be deeply grateful to our surrogate, who carried our embryo to term.

"Amid these challenging times, we feel doubly blessed to be able to celebrate our good fortune."
