X FACTOR star Cher Lloyd made a dig at her old boss Simon Cowell implying he is 'brainless' – eight years after she left his record label.

The Want U Back singer took to her Instagram story last night and shared a clip of Kelly Peakman's 2007 X Factor audition.

In the iconic clip, Kelly fumes: "Where's your brain, in your middle toe?" to Simon, who likened her rendition of Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You to a "dog barking".

Cher was clearly in a playful mood as shared the hilarious clip with her 2.2million followers.

Taking aim, the 27-year-old penned alongside the clip of Kelly's tirade: "For real though…"

Back in 2013, Cher revealed she had parted ways with Simon's company SyCo and hit out at the music mogul, saying she couldn’t handle the level of ‘control’.

Cher found fame after finishing fourth on the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010.

She was quickly signed to Simon Cowell's Syco Music and hit the ground running with her debut single, Swagger Jagger, which reached the number one spot in the UK charts in July 2011.

Her second single, With Ur Love reached number four that October.

The singer had some success in the United States with her version of Want U Back in February 2012, reaching the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Yet in 2013, Cher revealed that she had parted company with Simon and his record label, saying she couldn’t handle the level of "control" they wanted.

She said at the time: "I don't really speak to him anymore. I left his label a year and a half ago and I got my record deal here [America]…

"I have a specific thing I am reaching for, so I have my own idea of how I'm going to get it. We all have a specific thing in life that we want to get to and I don't deal very well with people having [control].

"I think he found me – I wouldn't say disobedient – but a little bit [difficult]."

In 2016 she returned with her single Activated as the lead track from her third album, but to date the record has not been released.

Aside from music, Cher welcomed a daughter Delilah-Rae in 2018 with husband Craig Monk.
