Italian student, 20, was mauled to death and ‘torn apart’ by a pack of stray dogs as she went for a romantic picnic in the woods with her boyfriend

An Italian student was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs while out for a picnic in the woods with her boyfriend.

Simona Cavallaro, 20, died after she was attacked by the dogs in the southern Italian town of Satriano this week.

Cavallaro and her boyfriend, who has not been named, had just finished a picnic with a group of friends when they decided to go for a stroll through the woods, local news sites Agi reported.

The couple were attacked by a pack of stray dogs as they passed through a densely wooded area. 

Cavallaro’s boyfriend was eventually able to escape and hid in an abandoned shack from where he phoned emergency services.

But before they could arrive, Cavallaro was torn apart by the dogs, according to local media.

Still alive but horrifically injured, Cavallaro was transported to hospital where she died shortly after arriving.        

Local authorities are in the process of rounding up the pack of dogs and an investigation into the student’s death has begun.
